Scatter! A Mosaic-Strict Morale System
So, I'm currently working on a TTRPG, which shouldn't really come as a major surprise to anyone. It's called Ye Who Enter, and the goal is to make something that is a hybrid between O/NSR and Storygame. Naturally, that means that I need to make mechanics for the game. Here, I present the tentative current morale system.
Creatures have a morale score between 4 and 36, with higher numbers being indicative of a creature less prone to fleeing when things go south. After every clash in a combat, roll 1d6. If the sum of all the dice is greater than the creature’s morale score, it will attempt to flee. For each time that one of the following has happened throughout the entire conflict, roll an additional d6:
- The creature is struck by a terrible blow
- The creature is exposed to something that scares it
- The leader of the creature’s side succumbs to death, dismemberment, or terror
- Half or more of the creature’s allies succumb to death, dismemberment, or terror
- The creature is set on fire or otherwise exposed to a dangerous environmental hazard
- An ally of the creature in immediate distance succumbs to death, dismemberment, or terror
Also, I wanted to give a shoutout to the fellow over at Behind the Helm. We were discussing a reaction roll system and it reminded me that I had never posted this mechanic.
